Planning for the future
Hi friends!
We are well into the 3rd quarter of the year - I can’t believe it.
I wanted to check in and see where we are all at with our goals?
Typically I have one main goal for the year and then I divvy the year up into 4 quarters.
Each quarter I assign small manageable goals.
Here’s a breakdown of my goals for the first half of the year:
2019 MAIN GOAL: Financial Stability
1st QUARTER PLAN: January, February, March
Stick to a budget: I’m notorious for dipping into my savings without cause. For example: taking $60 from my savings to go out for brunch with friends is quite ridiculous. Thankfully I’ve kicked this habit to the curb! I’ve learned that if I want to do something - I plan for it and save for it. I don’t cheat myself by taking form my savings.
Exercise 4x week: While it took a long time to build this habit, I can confidently say that over the last 6 months on average I go to the gym 4x a week. I joined a gym close to my work, so I go at lunch time. If I get my workout done earlier in the day - there’s less room for excuses.
8 hours of sleep: I am struggling with this big time ahahah! Still a work in progress. I’ve decided that Monday - Wednesday I make it a goal to get 8 hours of sleep. While this doesn’t happen all the time, I’m continually working towards this.
Life planning 3x week: You’re probably wondering what “life planning” is? LOL As I’ve gotten older, I have realized just how important it is to have a plan. When I refer to life planning, I’m just talking about taking the time to schedule my week, my month and my year in my journal/planner. I use the Hustler’s Agenda. It’s perfect for organizing your 9-5, your side hustle and personal life. For me, life planning is anything from scheduling when I’m going to work out, writing out my meal plan, or strengthening my linked-in profile. It really just depends!
Find a family doctor: Can you believe I haven’t had a family doctor for 5 years??? After moving from my hometown for college, I never made a point to find a new doctor in Toronto. Luckily I finally found a clinic and doctor that I like - it has made all the difference! Particularly because my doctor is actually interested in what I have to say. Previously I would go to various walk-in clinics whenever something came up - that was a disaster. I never received the proper care that I needed because the clinic had so many people in the waiting room. Needless to say, doctor’s were always rushing.
2nd QUARTER PLAN: April, May, June
Taxes: This is the first year I didn’t rely on my mom to do them. Don’t applaud me - because I definitely didn’t do them myself. Hahah! I went to my local H&R block. This was a small but important step for me because I don’t want to rely on my parents for anything.
Prioritize paying off credit card debt: I’m going to be completely honest here and say that I only just figured out how to use a credit card properly. I had no idea that your credit score is largely made up of credit utilization? I had no idea that your credit utilization should be no more than 30%. I made a plan to prioritize paying off my credit card debt, and I’m working towards that now! I don’t owe the bank loads of money, but I definitely could do better in this department - therefore challenge accepted!
Spend time with family/friends: This is an ongoing struggle. Everyone lives a busy life but I’ve come to realize that I’m never too busy to send a text that says “I miss you or I’m thinking of you.” Its minor but it goes a long way.
Passport renewal: If I plan on going anywhere this year I better do this lol. I should have this completed by the end of the July.
& that’s it folks!
I’m still in the process of planning my goals for July - September.
But I’m sure I will update you all at some point.
Let me know how your goal setting is going in the comments.
xx
